I love the quiet act of arranging several things next to each other on a table or windowsill.

In these pictures, I aim to share the spark of excitement felt by placing a simple grey ceramic jug next to the bold silhouette of a little bird, against a sheet of ochre paper. These scenarios take on the drama and atmosphere of a theatre set.

I work in a variety of media – oils, chalk pastels, ink, pencil, charcoal, gouache and collage.

Most of the work shown here is painted in gouache, etched into with a metal point and worked over in chalk pastel.
